I do indeed use a Mac - an iMac. All s/w (Leopard not Lion) is fully up to
date.
I do not have the same trouble in any other apps, nor in any other subsets
of LibreOffice such as Documents.
I do not have a touchpad, only a relatively new (and brilliant) mouse.
Just to expand a little, when the the problem arises it usually, but not
always, occurs just after I've entered data into a cell when the page just
scrolls anywhere apparently at random. 
So far with LibreOffice, this happens only occasionally, but with NeoOffice
it was a real pain and caused me to stop using it.
The only thing I can think of is that the View option in both LibreOffice
and NeoOffice has a facility to control the Mouse positioning and middle
button. I have turned off automatic positioning and scrolling but to no
effect.
