Hi folks,

I more commonly haunt the l10n halls but having just installed the latest release, I thought I'd grace this list briefly with a list of my most common "not again" issues :)

1) I think it's been raised many time but I'll raise it again - the way you download one massive file, irrespective of which localization you've chosen and the way you have to magically guess you need to select Custom install as opposed to Typical to get your language is insane beyond belief. It blows up the download file (remember we're not all on fibreoptic), it's confusing for users looking for a specific language and, for good measure, makes it almost impossible to locate proofing tools for your language because even if you only want language X, ALL spellcheckers and grammar checkers are there in the Tools > Extension Manager menu.

2) I had high hopes for the new update manager but apart from telling me there is an update, it doesn't actually do anything useful. I still have to go through the rigmarole of downloading the massive file, navigating the stupid (sorry) install options process... not sure what the end user is supposed to gain really.

3) Having downloaded it, instead of doing the smart thing and getting my user data from the old installation, it pretends I've never had LO before. Not so great.

4) Having reached the Custom Setup screen, it also hasn't bothered to check what language my previous installation was in. Instead, no language is selected for the UI and I have to go and select my locale yet again.

Don't get me wrong please, I'm fully behind this project and spend a lot of time localizing but these are such basic usability issues that by now should have been sorted in LO and I *really* don't understand why they haven't. I've met a number of people who had gone off trying LO simply because of the install process being so odd and I suspect this is a fairly widespread issue.

Cheers,

Michael
