Yes, the document stated "Garamond" but which version of Garamond was it? I have seen several different "companies" offering their own version of Garamond, calling it be that name or a different name altogether. It seems to be a very popular font to copy and make "their own".

If I remember correct, MS had a version in one of their OSs, or Office packages. You do not need to buy it, since there are free alternatives. There are a number of free font sites out on the Web, so you should be able to find one with a font that has the "Garamond" name in it/them.

I have many fonts with that name as part of the font name. I also bet if you Google for free substitutes for Garamond, you should find something

These might work

EB Garamond

jGaramond
http://www.janthor.com/jGaramond/

Garamond 3 URW

Several listed at that site

more listed at
http://garamond.org/

This was from a short searching of the Web.

If these do not work for you, let me know - OFF LIST - and I will try to help you find more options.

Hi - someone has given me a book layout to work on. The text typeface my
correspondent chose was Garamond, a font I do not have on my Win7 machine.
"Garamond" shows up in the font field of LO 4.1.4.2, but when I mouse over
it I get the tooltip "Font Name: The current font is not available and will
be substituted". The substitution appears to be Times New Roman, but I'm not
sure.

The LO replacement table Tools > Options > LibreOffice > Fonts doesn't help,
as it can't replace fonts one doesn't have. I can buy Garamond inexpensively
enough, it's but I'd like to know how font substitution works.

Can someone let me know how to find out exactly what font will be
substituted for Garamond? Is the substitution always the same regardless of
the missing font? Is this an issue with LO or with Win7?

Thanks for any help with these questions. edo1
