Even if the EU parliament voted software patents down, ACTA could lead to
enforcement of them after all. In general, laws like these are not about
protecting interests, but rather secure the status quo enjoyed by its
strongest supporters, and at the same time prevent innovation leading to
the same parties demise in certain markets. Just look at what Kodak turned
into when they went bust; a patent troll. Clogging up the justice system
with nonsense, like they do in the USA, might no be what we want in Europe …
