       + should be decided internally (Jay)
   + suggest to hire a designer (Jay)
      + opposing this idea (Heiko)

GSoC

* Special character (akshay)
   + limited scope without OCR part, which would be very pity as OCR would be a killer feature
   + https://user-prompt.com/libreoffice-design-session-special-character/
   + Work is going on; questions about filter vs. selection in respect to subsets
   + https://docs.google.com/document/d/1PxkIpkzgWF1cX9oQmBhjiTBhUXvUEqbz06Bn4hzbF54/
* Customization dialog (mkara)
   + https://docs.google.com/document/d/1IPXkYMmyXQzoVUdMpnBeoQdf-LNp5_oNaqfW6OFhxqA/
   + Finalization of the deisgn done in the last week with two variants that needs decision first (-> ML)
* Notebookbar (ggurbet)
   + "Contextual tabs are automatically switched to when inserting or selecting an element, but
      when the user switches away from the contextual tab during element selection, should it
      still continue to automatically switched to the contextual tab for that particular type
      of element? (e.g. after entering a table and the table tab is switched to, if i select
      the Home tab to focus on text formatting rather than table design and then leave table,
      if i enter a table again, should it still switch back to the Table tab)"
     + MS jumps automatically to the contextual band
     + contextual switching is implemented (Szymon) but that might be buggy in master (Jay)
     + proposed is a smart contextual switch with switch on insertion and sticky behavior on modify content

Tickets

* Currency icon
   + https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=100849
   + Option a) Localize and follow the ICU standard with font
   + Option b) Have a unique symbol independent from locale (e.g. Breeze, comment 21)
   => Have one icon for currency created the icon designer

* Export bookmarks to PDF in Impress
   + https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=107932
   + a) Use another property such as the slide name (behavior today; where name
        is set by default to the slide title)
   + b) Rename the option and allow to export name plus title, optional (suggestion)
   + c) Just remove the option to export bookmarks from Impress
   => Similar to Writer's export of outlines the _title_ of slides should be exported (rather than slide names)
   => Rename "Export bookmarks" to "Export outlines"

Hi all,

  * Branding for 6.0
    + put submission for voting? (Heiko)
        + should be decided internally (Jay)

Who is "internally"?
Please don't do any intransparent decision without discussion. And please give all a chance to discuss (let me say min. four weeks).

The best would be a Whiteboard [1] as we made it the last times (except LibO 5).

    + suggest to hire a designer (Jay)
       + opposing this idea (Heiko)

I think we have no budget for this.

The pad is still at https://pad.documentfoundation.org/p/UX-branding-6.0 and the last request for input has been done on the mailing list http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/Branding-6-0-td4215458.html (x-post with marketing). One reply to marketing with +1 for keeping the original motif (forever) and another one directly to me.

100% agreement for the transparency.

Apparently, there is not much interest in that topic. I sent out four or five messages on the mailing lists, wrote a blog post and filed a job request on OSD just to end up with a self-made proposal and some ideas from a friend. We do not have an ad hoc concept for the major release nor anything to draw focus on. That leads to a trivial design like what we have today. Given we hire a designer what should she do? Creativity does not come out of the blue. Plus, there is likely no budget. And personally I think we shouldn't spent donation money for those short-term pieces. Would be different if it was for 10 years or more.
On the other hand we have the original design, which is nice and was never challenged. Don't remember why the major release should receive a unique branding at all. That's why I support the idea to go back. But we do open source and it's up to the community to decide with what design to continue.
