Thanks to Calc Guide reviewers

Hi All,

I just wanted to say a big thank you to all those who are helping to review the 7.0 Calc Guide. We are very lucky to have such talented individuals helping us out, long may it continue.

My biggest problem is updating the chapters quickly enough to keep everybody busy!

Regards,

Steve

Hello everyone,

Just uploaded a first review on the CG7005 - Using Graphics in the Feedback
folder.

With that I uploaded a .zip file with a few images to support some of the
comments.

The Calc Status Guide has been updated.

Steve,
Just for information, I did manage to reproduce those Data Labels steps in
the new LO Calc latest release in the Safe Mode, so this is probably a
configuration issue.

But the others (crashing in 3D View and the problem with the Data Range in
the Chart Wizard) I still can't execute. Just reported some bugs on
BugZilla about them.
Thank you very much for the support.

Best regards,
Felipe Viggiano

Hello Felipe,

As ever, many thanks for the comments.

I have worked through your comments and in one or two cases used some editorial judgement to reword things. I hope that's okay. The document is now in Draft ready for second review.

Two matters arising:
Under Figure 4, description of Area Style /Filling controls on the Image toolbar. You have suggested adding the text “(with exception to clipboards)”. I’m sorry but I don’t understand what this means and why it is needed. Please feel free to respond by email and clarify what you intended. I'll update the document if appropriate before second review.
I have not included the proposed tip (shortly after Figure 11) to highlight the 7.0 addition of the Glow and Soft Edge options on the Properties deck when a drawing object is selected. These controls are clearly visible on Figure 12 and we don’t normally embed tips in the text of a guide, when the sole purpose of that tip is to state that a particular feature is new. (The Release Notes, which are linked in the Preface section of the guide, do that job).

Steve

Hello Steve,

Thanks again for the feedback!

About the clipboard suggestion, sorry I was not clear enough at that point.
My intention there was to remind the user that when a change in the *Area
Style / Filling *is applied to a clipboard, it won't change the background,
it will actually change the colours of the clipboard itself.

About the tip I will keep that in mind for the next reviews!

Best regards,
Felipe Viggiano

Hi Felipe,

I'm really sorry if I'm being stupid, but I'm not familiar with the Calc feature that you are discussing. Please could you give me some idea of the user interactions required to "apply a change in the Area Style / Filling to a clipboard", so that I can understand the context of your comment?

Regards,

Steve

Hello Steve,

I am very sorry, now I can see the mistake.

Where is written:
*"with exception to clipboards"*

Please consider this:
"*with exception to images from the Gallery*"

I wrote clipboards thinking in the images from the Gallery, sorry about
that.

When the guide was describing the *Area Style / FIlling* button it was
saying the following:

"*Area Style / Filling** – sets the color or other characteristics of the
background area that contains the image, not the image itself.*"

But I believe this is only true for inserted images from an external file
(like a .jpg or a .png). When we are talking about an image from the
Gallery, this button changes the image itself, and not the background.

Best regards,
Felipe Viggiano

Hi Felipe,

Thanks for the further explanation, I understand the context of the comment now.

On my Windows version of LO 7.0.0.2, Calc's Area Style / FIlling changes the background of inserted Gallery items, not the images themselves. As a worked example, I inserted the Note-Gold image in the Shapes theme of the Gallery into an empty spreadsheet. Very little background is visible on this particular image, just a small triangle in the bottom right corner. When I selected the inserted image and made selections with the Area Style / FIlling controls, only the appearance of that small triangle changes, not the whole image.

Of course if you insert one of the transparent images in the Gallery which has lots of background area (e.g. the Textbox image in the Shapes theme), then it may appear that the inserted image is changing color. However I think it's just the background that's changing.

In summary my Windows version of Calc 7 appears to be behaving consistently in this respect for Gallery images and non-Gallery images, and so I'm not sure that the note you suggest is valid.

Please could you have another look at your end - is it possible that this is another problem with LO in your particular operating environment?

Regards,

Steve

Hello Steve,

So that's what caused this controversy!

To reproduce your steps, I inserted a Note-Gold as well, and when applying
another color in the Area Style / Filling controls, my LO Calc (Linux)
changed the whole image, only the small yellow line on the top remains in
the original color.

Here what it looks like for me:
https://nextcloud.documentfoundation.org/s/mCRCBncnyRAxR4J

That's why I thought this was expected.
In this case, I'm going to see if this issue is just a configuration error
in my LO version, or else I'm gonna report a bug on this.

Thank you very much!

Best regards,
Felipe Viggiano
