But equally a sane mailing list would default to reply to the list. If
the default is to reply to the sender, you are implicitly saying:

1. We really don't want to have discussions here;
2. If you do get an answer we can't see any reason for that to be
shared with anyone else.

No, a sane mail client will do what you tell it to do.

If I click Reply All, it should Reply All.

But yes, a sane client will also have a 'Reply to List' capability.

I like Thunderbirds 'Smart Reply' button, but sadly it only works on the
button toolbar down on the message header pane (which I keep collapsed, so
never use), not on the main toolbar.
