Hi Florian,

The Declaration of Internet Freedom
<http://www.freepress.net/blog/2012/07/02/declare-your-internet-freedom>
has sparked a vigorous global discussion about the role of the Internet
in our lives — and how we can keep it free and open. Since its launch
earlier this month, the Declaration has had a significant impact thanks
to the more than 1,500 organizations and companies — including yours
— that have signed on.

*Now it's on to phase two: The Summer of Internet Freedom.*

This August we’re asking Declaration signers around the world to host
Internet freedom events — Internet BBQs, you could call them — to engage
with the Declaration’s five principles and have a conversation about
what Internet freedom means for us and our communities. The more that we
show our support for Internet freedom, the closer we’ll get to policies
that protect our right to communicate online.

*Can you host an event this August? Sign up here.

P.S. Here’s a look at other highlights of the Declaration launch:

·More than 50,000 individuals from more than 140 countries have signed
the Declaration. Check out the list of signers here
<http://www.internetdeclaration.org/>.

·Internet pioneer Vint Cerf, Chinese dissident Ai Weiwei, Sen. Ron Wyden
and Rep. Darrell Issa are among the signers.

·The Declaration has been the subject of dozens of articles, including a
post atSlate
<http://www.slate.com/blogs/future_tense/2012/07/02/declaration_of_internet_freedom_calls_for_digital_rights_.html>coauthored
by Free Press and the New America Foundation’s Open Technology Institute.

Dear Brian,

The release of the Declaration of Internet Freedom has sparked a
vigorous global discussion about the role of the Internet in our lives —
and how we can keep it free and open. Threats to the open Internet
emerge all the time. Just this month, Verizon claimed it has the right
to "edit" the Internet, and AT&T made moves that could violate Net
Neutrality rules on mobile phones.

So this August we’re fighting back and encouraging Internet users to
advocate for Internet freedom via a series of events — Internet BBQs,
you could call them — across the country and around the world.

*Click here to learn how you can host your own Summer of Internet
Freedom event

The more that we engage with the Declaration and show public support for
Internet freedom, the closer we’ll get to policies that protect our
right to communicate online.

So after you’ve finished grilling, you and your friends can work
together to remix the Declaration’s principles, discuss what they mean
to you and your community and share photos and videos from the day.

Maybe barbecues aren’t your thing. No problem!Click here

follow up with resources to help you plan a fun Internet-y gathering.

Thanks,

Josh, Mary Alice, Alex and the rest of the Free Press team
