I agree with this personally, because I find darker backgrounds good for working on a background.
But I don't think we should override the user's theme if at all possible (also, LibreOffice's
Windows and Mac versions should also be remembered! It is used widely outside of Linux, too!).

Rather, I think we should look at redesigning the options dialogue, where it's not really clear how
to change the application's color scheme. To my memory, it's currently under Appearance, then you
scroll around-- with no live preview!-- looking for which color to change in a long, long list.

Not hard if you're used to it, but annoying for a first time user. Or maybe we can include some
color "presets" that are easy to choose from?

Hi all,

first of all: i'm new to open source and the whole mailing-list thing, plus - as you'll probably
recognize - english isn't my native language, so if i do something wrong, please tell me.

I'd realy love to see a darker application background in Writer. As you know, the appearance of
LibreOffice depends on the used GTK Theme. Because most GTK Themes are light and bright, the
contrast between the application background and the document is to low (especially on monitors
with low contrast) [1]. When LibreOffice is used over a long period of time, this causes
distraction and the loss of focus.

I made a mockup [2] and an entry at the wiki [3], so you can see what i'm talking about.
