Hello alll,

I think we have to be a bit careful here. First of all, we're very
grateful for ubuntu to ship LibO and it is obvious that we will have
the stable 3.3 ready for the next Ubuntu release. So it's not so much
about what we could do to align ourselves with Ubuntu than the proper
timeframe for integration. What's more, however, is that as you may
have noticed, we are / will be shipped on many others, if not all Linux
distributions, if not in 2010, then in 2011. Our developers' community
is also made of OpenSuse, RedHat/Fedora, and Debian developers, to
mention the most famous (I hear Gentoo folks are also around). We thus
have to think about whether a distro-specific marketing would be
welcome. After all, OpenSuse, Fedora, Debian, only to mention these
three, are quite popular as well, and in terms of userbase, OpenSuse +
Fedora is probably comparable if not superior to Ubuntu.

Best,
Charles.

Hi Charles

I chalk it up to the fact that the Ubuntu culture is such that the members of the Ubuntu family users/devs seem to always be so exuberant of their distro. If there is one thing that we can say of the Ubuntu family, it's that they are all as hyped up about Ubuntu and this all the time. It's often a quality that we find lacking in our linux distro groups. I don't think that they intended to speak as if LibO would align itself with Ubuntu but more that Ubuntu is having LibO show up as an Office Suite on their list either as the primary suite of choice or an equal to OOo. That's the way I read it. Just innocent chatter.

We are all grateful for the help from devs from different distros and hope that more devs from more distros join in to help. This in my mind goes a long way to show that the LibO suite is a universally accepted package.

I am on the Mageia distro marketing team and would like to say that we would carry the LibO suite as well. Just like the devs, we are helping out as well.

Marc
