That is no problem but I am aware you have mentioned a number of times that
there is a private instance and that is where my main concern is in terms
of security. I wonder even with the public instance if https can be used

ownCloud supports encryption, but then, it's not sharable with other
users. As I understand our ownCloud instance for public sharing of data, I
don't see encryption as a main issue.
