Try writing a complete general ledger accounting system - in COBOL - for 
a college.  Now that was a project for me to do back in the mid '80s.  I 
had to do it solo and it took about 2 months of typing and debugging 2 
or 3 days a week for 1-3 hours a day.  The rest of the time I was doing 
my regular work and handwriting the code on the "special" coding forms 
they required before I typed the code into the terminal/mainframe.
