Hi

thanks for explaining the technical background for the different
logos ... on the other hand, I'm still thinking about how we can
overcome some of the issues we had in the past (which would not have any
impact on the excellent work you did so far).

The issue is - what is an "extension"? It could be a software feature,
some dictionaries, cliparts or even templates (or collections of
templates). But, templates will also be provided separately ...

For me (just me), it's everything which will have the .oxt extension (or
format) : Something which is installed by the Libo extension manager.

So, basically, we can ship everything packed in an extension - that's up
to the developers. Furthermore, something I thought about when working
on the download page, I don't know why we currently separate the
downloads for e.g. the basic LibO package, the DVDs, the LibO-Box, ...

Mmh (attention: pure brainstorming ahead), how about a "LibreOffice
Download Center" (or LibreOffice Software Center) that consists of:
     * LibreOffice
     * Extension (Packs) (categorized: features, templates,
       clipart, ...)
     * Individual items:
             * Templates
             * Clipart
             * ...

Good idea, it's would be a unique place to go to download everything related
to Libreoffice. It would so make it easy for new users to know where to go.

The "straighforward" download should still be available via the normal
LibreOffice page, but all specific downloads could be handled via such a
portal.

Would that be something for a long term goal?

Hy thing it should be. Maybe first have just Libo downloads, then integrate
extensions and templates when ready ?

Cheers,
Christoph

Kévin

Hi all,

I'm currently sitting in the garden (without Internet access and thus
no
chance to access the graphics at the moment) and would like to add some
thoughts to this discussion.

Hi Andreas, Bernhard, everyone else following this,

as I said in my last mail, I have found Nik's SVG and now based my
new
logo proposal on it. Here is the outcome, still certainly not perfect
and still using the metaphor with the slash-dotted lines for
templates.

because of technical issues with the searching in the
PloneSoftwareCenter, which
searches through the whole Extension-Template-Repository-Site and display
under "any
category" all extensions and templates, I decided to create a second site
to split
off the two parts. Thus I need to different logo (one for the
extension-repo and
another one for the template part).

The two sites inside one zeoserver are currently up and runnig (but not
under the
final URL).

Mmh, I've thought a bit about the slash-dotted line - how to combine
what we currently have, or what we can do about the recent template
icons, the old icons (still used in some places) and the template
repository logo. So, here are some ideas open for discussion (if you
like).

Idea 1: How about turning the characters for "Extensions & Templates"
into the known items puzzle piece (='X') and spiral binding (=left side
of 'E'). This would match the recent LibO styling.

What about stressing more the x in extension like a big green X
(Xtension) in the
mode of an eyecatcher?

We could do the same with the T for templates in the other site.

Regards,
Andreas
