There is always room for improvement, and as we seem to have the
vibrancy and resources I would love to see the website team step up
and do what they do best. If we don't make improvements for 6 months,
as you have suggested we will risk underutilization of the new members
and losing them due to a perceived lack of interest.

While there is always room for improvement -I understand you talk about
incremental progress (fixing bugs on the website, etc.)- I do not
believe that continuously remaking the website is what desirable.

Also, it's a matter of priority. I understand there are many volunteers
for the website, but then it's perhaps necessary to understand that we
may not need to have these contributions just because there are people
who would like to help. Don't get me wrong: it's not about rejecting
anyone, it's about setting priorities. There many other areas who need
volunteers: Quality Assurance for instance (it does not require
programming skills, just method and patience), or documentation, or even
the focus of our effort, development: there are many ideas out there, on
the wiki, from easy stuff to more complex efforts that are only waiting
to be implemented...

On the other hand it's quite frustrating for someone like me to see
that many things related to the website require so much investment of
time, energy and effort for something that is simply not our focus. We
spend waaay too much time trying to manage people who absolutely want
to do something with the website. That's nice, but there's a limit
beyond which it does not help our project.

As far as I know, the plan was to wait until David presented the work
he had compiled, then the whole website team would get involved in the
improving phase. Don't get me wrong, the work David produced is
fantastic, but I know that as a team we can create something that
really represents the quality standard of the LibreOffice software
product.

You are absolutely welcome to work with the website team! But I don't
have the feeling they want to restart the website over and over again.

I am not sure who you are referring to by 'we', but these plans were
discussed at length on the recent conference call, and the team has
people who are willing to get on board and help out 'now'.

If I remember what was discussed it was clear that while help was
welcome on the website it wasn't for an overhaul.

Best,
Charles.

Thanks,
Michael Wheatland
