I had a big graphic map of regional railroad lines.  I created a high 
res PDF file to be printed on a "plotter" at 3 foot by 4 foot.  It would 
not render.  I never did get any large format prints from the 
"professional" equipment.  BUT, I took that same file and printed it out 
to an inkjet printer and it printed file, thought it took a long time to 
do the processing the data to be sent via the USB cable to the inkjet.

Saying that, it could be the massive amount of data that the 
"Imagesetter" needs to do its job, vs. what an HP printer [b&w or color] 
would need.
