Trying to get started with templates and styles with
LibreOffice Writer (4.4.4.3).

I noticed the following anomalous behavior. To re-create:

From a freshly installed LibreOffice (4.4.4.3), start Writer
from either the Windows (this is Windows 7 X64 Ultimate, FYI)
Start menu or the LibreOffice application launcher. This opens
up onto a blank document named "Untitled 1", which is sourced
from either a default template (installed), or from constants
stored in the program for all of the Styles (paragraph,
character, frame, etc.).

Using the Navigation Bar on the right, click the icon for
"Styles and Formatting". Select the "Paragraph" style icon
(if not already selected). At the bottom of this list, there
should be a drop-down menu to select the style viewing options,
select the "Hierarchical" viewing style if it is not already
selected. At the top of the list, right-click on the
"Default Style" style and select "Modify". If the dialog did
not open to the "Organizer" tab, select the "Organizer" tab
and then cancel and re-open the style editor.

On this page (the "Organizer" tab of the style editor / viewer),
after the "Style" section, there is a "Contains" section that
is supposed to list the English representation of all of the
non-default settings on all of the other tabs. At this point,
this section is empty (which you would expect, as at this point
none of the defaults have been modified). Now, click on the
"Borders" tab, and then click back to the "Organizer" tab.
Now the "Contains" section of the "Organizer" tab says:

Shadow: Gray, Not Transparent, 0.07inch, No Shadow

If you click the "OK" button and save the document, this will be
saved as a permanent alteration to the Default Style, i.e.
the "Organizer" tab will show this as the current style
when next you go to modify it.

I have found evidence (old) that this is not a new problem,
but a very old one that should have been corrected
many years ago, ref:

http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=58090
https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=78958

both of which are from 2007...

If this is a known bug in LO, none of my searches were able to
find it. Who can open a bug report on this, or does someone
want to raise the "feature vs. bug" argument?

Thanks!
-Mike
