You mention easily upgrading back and forth between OO and LO. HOw to
do that? I completely uninstalled OO in order to install LO.

Hi :)

OpenOffice is not a good longer-term solution but it is very easy to upgrade
from it to LibreOffice and that will continue to be the case for a long time,
hopefully many years. If you need an instant answer then going with OpenOffice
seems to be the best option for now.

LibreOffice developers are much faster at fixing things and at making larger
improvements which are 2 reasons why LibreOffice is a better longer-term
solution.

Obviously they can't fix things instantly but someone else on this list might be
able to give a better instant answer for LibreOffice. There seems to be more
activity in the mailing lists when America is on-line.
Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

Subject: Re: [libreoffice-users] difficulty with spreadsheet links

I have problems with links also but found it doesn't matter if the linked file
is still there. What I

am seeing is only the first link is being saved. The problem I have is I use a
third sheet to link

to a calculated value in the second file but since the linked data from the
first file is lost once

you close file 2 the data for file 3 is wrong. See post "Calc Links not all
saving".

The only way I found to fix this was to install OpenOffice 3.3. If anyone
has another

solution I would be happy to test it otherwise we will have to upgrade our
systems to

Openoffice instead of Libreoffice.

    I filed a bug at
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34637

I will also file one at the wiki link mentioned as soon as I can. I have 3
sample

spreadsheet files that show this if anyone wants to look at them.

Thanks, Ron Gregor

Ahah, i thought you were going to say something like that. It does seem
completely reasonable. It could lead to file sizes being larger but does have

advantages.

Is it possible to zip the file with the data-source so that both files get sent

as a single attachment? or even to send both files (as 2 attachments) without

zipping them? I can think of a few reasons why it might not be a workable
work-around but if it is then that is probably the fastest temporary way to get

the result you need.

Can you report this as a bug-report to get a result in the longer-term?

The thing is, in MS Excel and Open Office, once the link is established,
if you open up the file and don't update the links, the values remain.
In Libre Office they disappear. This is a problem if you want to share
the spreadsheet file with someone else who doesn't have the date file on
their computer. Do I make myself understood?

I do not understand here. You link to something then delete it and
expect to still connect to it? It is a _link_ it is not a copy of the data.
