[libreoffice-users] Mysterious line-spacing

I have a long and fairly complex document, with numerous styles. My
problem is that a small amount of visual line-spacing is being added
between paragraphs, which I do not want.

I was defining line-spacing in paragraph styles as a percentage of
nominal size, so after investigating everything else I had the
brainwave of redefining it as fixed amounts (I’m using millimetres).
After a considerable amount of manual work I see, to my dismay, that
the unwanted additional spacing is still there.

(Strangely, there’s an option within the style definition of “Don’t add
space between paragraphs of the same style.” Why there should be an
option of *not* doing something so unorthodox is another mystery;
however, it also has no effect.)

I had another brainwave and thought that this is perhaps a display
issue and that it would be all right when the document was printed. I
made a PDF of the document (which is how it will be done eventually)
with a view to printing that, but lo! it’s still there. I also printed
some sample pages to make sure.

Is this a fault in the program, I wonder, or is there something I can
do?
