Hm, Making Screenshots with Gimp is quite easy: 

1) Start Gimp
2) Go to File > Create > Screenshot
3) Select what you want to capture, don't forget to set a delay to be able to click on the window 
you want to capture
4) Klick on "Snap"
5) Save your screenshot in the format you want (I usually use png)

What I often do is resizing the image (you'll find this under Image > Scale image) or cropping a 
picture.
If I need to add arrows and text or circles to make clear what the text is talking about, I often 
do this in Draw (which can also export an image as a png file). 

And, something (a bit) unrelated: Gimp has a few filters to test how something will look to someone 
who is colourblind. You'll find those filters in View > Display filter. I tested all the 
screennshots I made with these filters, it was quite interesting. Seeing, that something I see as 
green might be seen by someone else as pink.

Btw, I haven't seen shutter in the Mageia repositories either. Maybe a bugreport (aka package
