Today I have pointed out a lot of negative press that is related to
LibO. What can be done about it?

In Europe there isn't any real negative press about OOo. The problem
with US is the total lack of a decent marketing project (so far), and
the limited information available to US media.

In addition, US is the home market of Microsoft, and this - of course -
is a fact that we cannot ignore.

We have already faced the issue in Europe, and we already know what is
necessary to get a decent press coverage. Of course, in US it will be
slightly more difficult because of Microsoft, but not impossible.

LibreOffice has a story and the story is what will make LibreOffice
remarkable.

In my opinion, the first story for US is that there is a viable
alternative for over 90% of office suite users. In US, even people
involved in the free software environment do not know enough OOo (I have
multiple experiences about this).

The first objective is to be featured in every software news story.

Once we will be there, the situation will change.

Yes. I also believe that the very nature of the US market is different than that of Europe. The for-profit model is very entrenched and opensource software has this hurdle to deal with as well. As Italo mentions, Microsoft will also be more aggressive in the N. American market where it dominates the office suite market. We will need to have a constant marketing campaign to gain some ground.

Cheers

Marc
