Hi Bernhard, hi all!

First, thanks to all who currently participate - although I support
Nik's proposal on more iterations, isn't it already cool that so much
discussion takes place and we come closer to our current goal?

Thus, I'd like to shed some more light on earlier decisions ...

Therefore I'd like to create a design that brings in as much as
possible
modern and trendy effects while keeping an eye on not losing
conservative users and supporters.

I think the present design is such a good compromise, but we're
continuously working on improving it.

Although it is just three lines of text, and there is quite some degree
of freedom, and it was written in a hurry, it seems that this
information pays off at the moment ...

When we started to work on the "Initial Branding", we expected interest
by governments, business people, end-users (which is nicely wrapped in
the TDF's mission statement). Thus, we had to come up with something
which works well for all those people ... may it be the CeBit trade fair
(Thomas is working on), the software itself (really old-fashioned), or
the website.

With all the experience from OpenOffice.org, we decided to go for a well
balanced approach in general (which is greatly interpreted by Paulo's
icons at the moment) for this varying target user base and the many
places the graphics will be seen for a long time. Of course, if things
have a short "lifecycle" (like web banners) it is easier to consider
"fashion" and recent likings ...

If we know more about the strategy for the project, if we defined a
certain direction for the whole Visual Identity Design (Thomas W.
already provided a lot of insight in the past), then we'll should
revisit our decisions we've made so far.

Thus, thanks for the iterations and keep up the good work (all)! :-)

Cheers,
Christoph
