Greetings!

This is my first post to this list. I am working to develop a deployment
proposal plan for the Milwaukee Police Department to deploy LibreOffice on
the mobile squad car computers and ruggedized laptops. If successful, I
personally think this deployment might expand to the general desktop and
there are even some indications of possible openness to Linux on the
desktop. I have read of how the Gendarmerie
Nationale<http://www.gendarmerie.interieur.gouv.fr/>(French Police)
have
deployed<http://www.wiredvc.com/french-gendarmerie-308switch-85000-pcs-to-ubuntu-and-save/>
Ubuntu
Linux<http://www.canonical.com/sites/default/files/active/Casestudy-GendarmerieNationale.pdf>&
OpenOffice<http://www.zdnet.fr/actualites/la-gendarmerie-nationale-passe-a-openoffice-39203431.htm>and
I know there are many other similar success stories.

I suspect there is probably a wealth of experience out there and key points
to learn from those who have already forged this trail. I wonder if you
know of any resources out there that I might take advantage of as I develop
a LibreOffice deployment plan?

Some of the questions that quickly come to mind are things like...

   1. Has anyone found and used any kind of deployment automation? (Perhaps
deployed via Active Directory or some open source software deployment tool?)
   2. Is there a way to globally specify settings, (like UNC path to
department forms, choice of SAVE AS file formats, other user preference
   settings)?
   3. How can I quickly and easily deploy updated versions of LibreOffice?
(Probably different for Windows versus Linux?)
   4. Any deployment and/or transition tips, tricks, advice, or
   pitfalls-to-avoid?
   5. Any user education & training documents/websites, tips or advice to
   help them transition?
   6. Any "Best Practice" documents or advice for deployment, configuration,
   updates/upgrades, transition/training?

If you have any advice, links, documents, plans, or contact information that
you might share with me, I would be glad to hear from you either on or
off-list.

Thanks!
