I have been posting in this thread regarding my tests and tries to slve this:
https://github.com/Ordissimo/scangearmp2/issues/35
<https://github.com/Ordissimo/scangearmp2/issues/35>

To cut it short, either it is how Libreoffice interacts with the canon_pixma
driver or it is the driver itself causing this problem.

Yester day I dicovered that although the snap of newer version of
Libreoffice can be installed on 16.04 from snap store, it doesn't mean
everything is working - in this case the discovery of my canon scanner.
Removing the snap version and using the latest version available for 16.04,
Libreoffice 6.2.8.2 - I can now get the scan dialog, and it can scan -
somewhat - because there are still a problem.

So I uninstalled and removed all Libreoffice from my system, by purging
everything and downloaded older versions in App images to see if the problem
were identical in all versions:

LibreOffice-3.6.7.2.help-x86_64.AppImage
LibreOffice-4.4.7.2.help-x86_64.AppImage
LibreOffice-5.4.7-x86_64.AppImage
LibreOffice-6.0.0-x86_64.AppImage
LibreOffice-6.0.1-x86_64.AppImage
LibreOffice-6.2.6-x86_64.AppImage
LibreOffice-6.2.7-x86_64.AppImage
LibreOffice-6.2.8-x86_64.AppImage

and even tried

LibreOffice-6.4.7-x86_64.AppImage

I tested them all, and the common thing is that in the scan dialog(not
showing on newer than 6.4.7 Version 7.0 Fresh App image doesn't even open up
on 16.04, snap 7.1.2.2 work but not scan dialog after selecting source),
when selecting the area to scan by mouse is not kept, it jumps back to
default after 1 second(right: 90mm bottom: 54mm), only when setting this
manually will it keep - that is until you either chose Generate preview or
select to Scan, in both cases it jumps back to default again.

Setting everything up and selecting Scan, ends up in it jumping back to
default just before exiting the Scan dialog, and only scanning right: 90mm
bottom: 54mm.

Extremely frustrating not to mention annoying!

Hope this will get things going in solving this problem, maybe the Document
Foundation could talk with the author of the driver?

With kind regards

Jan
