Hi Girvin,

blank page with no structure entries. Opening the table produces the
SQL errors: "The data content can not be loaded. The query can not be
executed. It contains no valid table.". If I click on "More", I get the
errors: "The data content could not be loaded.", "SQL Status: HY000 The
query can not be executed. It contains no valid table." and the
information: "The SQL command leading to this error is: SELECT * FROM
"pintosw"" (where "pintosw" is my dBASE database file "pintosw.dbf").

You might find that you actually have to save the ODB file, shut down LO
and restart it completely (including any quickstarter if you are on
Windows). The refresh button doesn't seem to perpertuate the refreshed
table schema to the ODB configuration file, which is why you then get an
error.
That is good to know. I will have to check that out, since it is a new day/boot here - Nope! Everything for the table is still blank, but I no longer get the error popups when I try to "open" a table. I guess that's progress.
Additionally, LO only supports DBF from dbf III+ and dbf IV from what I
recall, but Andreas might know more about that than I do, so if your
DBFs use an earlier version, then they probably won't be recognised by LO.

Ahh! Now that is what I am thinking.
I did some further research on dBASE file formats since my last posting and yes, the file formats changed considerably since my dBASE II files were created - Especially between dBASE II and III. I have now given up using Base to read these old files. The good thing is that, as a result of my further research, I now know the file format and I have begun writing a program to read these DBF files and write their data out to a new Comma Separated Value (CSV) file, which can be read by many programs, including Calc. What I didn't mention in my posting is that I also have dBASE II command files (.CMD) which manipulate the data in these DBF files. If LO can't read the old DBF files, I have no hope of LO actually executing the .CMD programs as dBASE II did. At least now I know some of LO's limitations with dBASE files.
Thanks again for the help.
Girvin
