Subj: LO Writer: Highlighting; setting page properties; some more
nitpicking

Hi,

I've run into two small problems with LO Writer (on XP/SP3+updates; LO
4.2.5 portable) for which I've found no obvious help online.

The first is a simple convenience thing. I often highlight some text and
have to un-highlight it a little later. This should work like
setting/resetting italic or bold attributes: pressing the highlight icon
does highlight the marked text and pressing it again (with the same text
marked) should remove the highlight. Well, it doesn't. Either I'm too
thick to find out how to do that or it doesn't work as I expect. (I know
that I can remove any highlight by explicitly setting the colour box to
"no fill" but switching back and forth all the time is really annoying.)

Second, I want to set the page size (Format>Page>Page) to 0.5cm on all
sides. I enter 0.5cm in the first box and then press Ctrl-A/Ctrl-C to
then copy that into the other three boxes. After pressing Ctrl-C, Writer
completely hangs for three, four, sometimes five seconds (on first use
of this dialog, later on it seems to be OK). I've checked this with a
process monitoring tool and the Idle process at all time has around 95%
or more so I am not sure what is happening here.

Some more observations: It would be great if the sidebar would actually
remember the panel that was last used. I almost never use fonts etc
directly but use styles instead. However, the first thing I have to do
every single time I start Writer is to change that sidebar from
"Properties" to "Styles and Formatting".

The start screen of the suite (showing the recently opened documents) is
primitive, to say the least. For one thing, I'd expect to be able to
remove documents (let's say, in a context menu that opens with a right
click). It would also be great if one could move the various documents
around.

These are not bugs of course, just suggestions that'd make things a
little easier. Is this the best way of posting such things?

Jon
