Hi Tiberiu,

I have requested LO join the PDF readers campaign.

And as indicated, we're willing to join by linking to the pdf readers
site when suggesting people to get a PDF Viewer application.

The icon near the links called "PDF" to the stored PDF files on your website
is not the icon proposed by Adobe for Adobe Acrobat generated PDFs [1].

Italo Explained the difference in detail, so no reason to repeat what he wrote.

Even the name of the icon file is "page_white_acrobat.png" (no PDF
word included).

You really want to start to argue on this level? Come on.

it's easy to
replace the icon with the Free PDF readers campaign run by FSFE, which lists
only Free Software applications for the same standard.

See - you first argue that the icon doesn't represent the format, but
the application by Adobe, and now you suggest to use an icon that
represents the application to represent the document format yourself!

Long story short: The icon *sucks* at small sizes, as used on our
websites. So unless there is a recognizable icon, there's no point in
discussing ideology or nitpicking whether it is application icon or
document icon.

[...] It
would be better not to display the icon, but since there is a replacement
available from FSFE, why not use it?

Because that icon sucks for small sizes. And I really doubt that
people see the icon as much as an advertisements for Adobe as FSF
seems to do.
But again, that doesn't matter.
The Icon doesn't represent the file-format. And even if it would, at
the small sizes we would need, the icon on the pdfreaders site is just
a green blob that is no visual hint for the user at all.

I have designed a PDF readers icon which IMO integrates well in the overall
design of your website. Please find the PNG and SVG attached. This icon is a
derivated work of the official PDF readers campaign by FSFE.

Attachments are stripped, so I cannot judge.

For the link to the Free PDF readers campaign, I can make a list of all
pages at libreoffice.org that list PDF documents.

No need for that, as we surely don't put a "download a pdf viewer"
banner/link on each page that offers a pdf.
Either we'll add it to the footer or to our main documentation pages.

ciao
Christian
