野方さんご提示の方法で検証してみましたが、私の環境では際限できませんでした。

余談ですが、[書式]-[ページ]にある「文字に合わせたマスを使用する」というチェックボックスはいつ頃から追加されたんでしょうね?
これのお陰でマスのサイズ設定が格段にやりやすくなった様に思います。

原稿用紙モードを無効にしているときに、ページの行数文字数を指定、フォン
トに等幅フォントを使うと、左揃えと両端揃えの文字配置の挙動が逆(両端揃え
で左に揃えられて、左揃えで両端が揃えられる)になっているような気がします。
ということで、誰か確認していただけないでしょうか。

# 環境
- LibreOffice 4.2.4.2

- Debian GNU/Linux sid (debパッケージ版)
- Windows 7 (TDFビルド版)

# 確認手順

適当な文字列を表示しておきます。

1. ツールバー[ツール]-[オプション]を設定。

- 「LibreOffice Writer」-「全般」にある、「文字の罫線に正方形のマスを使
    用する(原稿用紙モード)」のチェックを外す。

2. ツールバー[書式]-[ページ]を設定。

「行数と文字数」タブに移動して設定する。

- 行数と文字数
  - 「行数と文字数指定(グリッド)」を選択。
  - 「文字に合わせたマスを使用する」のチェックを外す。

- 行数と文字数の設定
  - ページ単位の行数: 40
  - 業単位の文字数: 40

- グリッド線の表示
  - 「グリッド線を表示する」のチェックはどちらでも。

3. フォントに固定幅フォントを指定する

適当な文字列に「IPA 明朝」や「MS 明朝」などの等幅フォントを指定する。

4. 文字の配置を「左揃え」「両端揃え」に変更して、確認する。

文字列の文字の配置を「両端揃え」にすると文字が左に揃えられ、「左揃え」
にすると両端に揃えられる。

フォントをプロポーショナルフォントにすると、「両端揃え」で両端が揃えら
れ(文字列左右揃えられる)、「左揃え」にすると左に揃えられる(文字列左側が
揃い、右側がガタガタになる)
