Don't know if this is to do with me experimenting with Splits but my Tabs have "vanished" from the bottom of my Spreadsheet! I've looked and can find no way to get them back. (If I open a NEW Spreadsheet they are still there), so it must be just on my current SS that they have vanished.

You can turn sheet tabs on or off at Tools | Options... | LibreOffice Calc | View | Window | Sheet tabs, but since your problem is with one spreadsheet only, I don't think that is relevant.

Between the sheet tabs and the horizontal scroll bar is a small slider which can be dragged left and right using the mouse. If you drag it sufficiently left, you can obscure the sheet tabs; indeed, you can even obscure the sheet navigation buttons to their left. Have you done that by mistake? Click on the slider - the small vertical bar immediately to the left of the horizontal scroll bar - and drag it to the right.

I trust this helps.
