I have results arriving by e-mail containing a series of lines with a structure as shown below. "Vytas", "vytas@somewhere.com", "Jock Wadley Award" ,"Freddy Someone", "dflghfsd" "Vytas", "vytas@somewhere.com", "Beryl Burton Award" ,"Joan Someone", "dflghfsd"

I need to paste this into a spreadsheet into five different columns. Every paste method I tried has failed.

You probably owe it to anyone trying to help not to keep secret what you have tried ...

The best I can get is that everything gets pasted into the first field. What am I missing?

When you say "arriving by e-mail", do you mean in the text of a message or as an attached text file? There are many ways to handle this.

o Paste the material using Paste Special instead of ordinary Paste, selecting "Unformatted text" in the Paste Special dialogue (as already suggested). In the Text Import window, tick Comma, Space, and "Merge delimiters", and select double quote for "Text delimiter".

o Paste the material into a plain text file with the .csv extension, or rename your existing attached file appropriately. Either open the .csv file in LibreOffice or use Insert | Insert Sheet From File... . Either way, select options in the Text Import window as above.

o Proceed as you already have, so that each row of data appears unchanged in a single cell. Select the column of values and go to Data | Text to Columns... . Select options in the Text to Columns window as in the Text Import one above. Your values will be separated and spread across five columns.

I trust this helps.
