I recently send a friend of mine a spreadsheet I built in LO Calc and
had it write in .xls format (MS Excel).  There were two columns of
dates in the spreadsheet.  When my friend opened the spreadsheet in
QP, the date columns all came up as "12:00am" instead  of a date.  He
did some playing with it and discovered that those columns came in
formatted as "time" rather than "date." When he changed the column
formats to "date" they worked/looked fine.

I didn't do anything special when building this file, but I didn't
specify what format those columns were in, I just typed in the dates
in mm/dd/yy format, which is all I've ever had to do before.  I don't
have QP, but when I look back in my .xls file, the cell formats show
as "date" not "time."

Can anyone w/QP replicate this problem?  Just create a spreadsheet in
LO Calc that has date entries, save it as .xls (MS Office 97/2000)
format and read it with QP to see what it shows.

I just checked the same file with Excel 2007, an it shows the cell
format as "custom" - it should come through as a date. This looks
like a bug to me.

I created the file with LO 3.3.0, the official release, but I just
upgraded to LO 3.3.1 rc1. To be sure, I created a test spreadsheet
where the first cell is a label and the one under it is a date. In LO
it shows as a date. In Excel 2007, it shows as a custom field (format
mm/dd/yy).

That doesn't seem right.
