OpenOffice and LibreOffice use absolute paths

='file:///C:/Source.ods'#$Sheet1.B2

while Excel uses relative paths

=[Source.xls]Sheet1!$B$2

This means that in Excel as long as the files are on the same folder or in
the same relative folder, the references will work

This is obviously a OOo/LO limitation. It is unreasonable to expect people
to maintain files in a fixed path so that they work... This also means that
if you send a file to a collaborator s/he will have to place it in the same
exact path which is unlikely...

But your problem must be different since you mention that when you open with
OOo this doesn't occur.

Can you upload somewhere a couple of sample files where this occurs and
paste the link in a post?
