hi Kévin, hi Greg!

I know Canonical designers use a lot Balsamiq, which is very powerful. It

Mmh, that's good to know - although that might raise the hurdles for
people to participate. I doubt that we will have the chance to get a
volume license key that can be published ;-) Okay, I didn't ask yet -
although I worked with Balsamiq Mockups quite some time.

Hi,

My preferred prototyping tools have been Inkscape (using javascript to
introduce interactive behaviours, where required), Impress for testing
basic
state transitions in a scenario (either with screen grabs or mock-ups made
with the drawing tools - or both)

Ah! I didn't knew that this is possible - is there any example or how-to
in the web how that works?

I recently rediscovered Pencil, a prototyping tool that seems to have
started
as a Firefox plug-in. I think the standalone version has more to it. I
tried
the standalone version and I was pleasantly surprised at how quick it is to
mock things up. Also, sharing the files allows a degree of collaborative
design. There's no interaction but for panel design, it's great.

See http://pencil.evolus.vn/en-US/Home.aspx

The last time I've used Pencil I was a bit disappointed due to many
small quirks and issues. Maybe that changed, but some months ago I was
unable to judge whether this is still an active project.

I know tools don't shortcut the value of years of UI design experience but
at
least they might help consistency and collaboration.

(I'm not allied in any way to the product; just reporting, having used it a
bit)

No, that's cool ... in OOo times I've started a list for such tools that
got transferred to our TDF wiki - fortunately, there is quite some
overlap with your list. So it would be great if you could enhance it if
you have any further hints :-)
