Hi,

a few people have poked me about the conference, so I wanted to sum up a some important items that popped to my mind. Many of you might know them already, but hopefully it helps some.

- While Switzerland is in Europe, it's not part of the EU. Therefore, for many mobile phone plans, expensive roaming plans apply - sometimes you pay twice or three times as much as for roaming in other countries, like 1,50 € per outgoing minute (!). Don't forget to turn off your mailbox and disable your data connection, unless you have some special roaming package booked.

- Not being part of the EU also has certain limitations on what you can export to your home country due to customs. Be cautious especially with liquor, tobacco and expensive goods - you might be subject to heavy taxes when you import them, and presents for your beloved ones might get quite expensive. ;-)

- Switzerland has different power sockets than other countries like France, Germany or Italy. Most plugs will not work, you need an adaptor.

- What happened to me last time is that I was asked my credit card PIN (not the CVV, but the PIN that you need for getting money from an ATM). While that might be common in some countries, it isnt in others, so take care of having your PIN with you.

Looking forward to seeing you in Bern soon!

Florian
