       If you're referring to IMPRESS, then here are my suggestions:
              [#3 below may answer your question]

          (1) when creating a presentation, the background may be selected;
                  if you wish to change this for some slides, then that can
be done manually for that particular slide -
                     just be sure not to click on 'apply to all' ;-)
          (2) if you wish to change the background after starting a
presentation, then click on the first slide --> 'select all' --> then
choose the background you wish to use;
                  this can also be done by clicking on just one slide then
clicking 'apply to all' -
                      BUT sometimes this method does not work and at times
causes the whole system to lock up.
          (3) if you wish to have more than 1 background per presentation
then choose the ones you want -->
                    'select all' and duplicate this batch as many times as
you desire.

       An aside: I always add additional slides so I have them to make
duplicates when necessary -
           these additions then I delete when I've finished making the
presentation.

       Hoping this helps,

Thanks. Though I read your reply a good number of times and thought hard
about it, I failed to see the difference of what I am currently doing now:
select the next background. Okay, it is from a template. But it does not
seem to address the salient point: I need to select the next background.
And
when I shuffle or insert, I need to click all subsequent slides, correct?
What I was actually looking for, was a way to automatically apply a series
of backgrounds (all backgrounds) consecutively to all the slides in a way
of
incrementing the background number with incrementing slide numbers.

Please correct me in case I was missing something,
Uwe
