I would ask those on the list here to review the site http://ooodev.org

of a _similar_ organization in the US, or I should say, to be precise,
that it is a good point to see if this fits in with the desires of
others and if so, to begin discussing how to make it happen.

The German project and the Italian project are represented inside TDF
and can help you in setting up a local not for profit.

Well, there are full non or not for profit corporations but there are
also many association models that IMO would more likely fit the current
situation.

Looking at what is likely on the horizon I would not expect particularly
large sums of money being involved, IMO most of an individuals
contribution is going to have to be self funded, travel, lodging and the
like. But there would be great use for a small pool of funds to augment
these efforts. The types of monies involved I would think then would be
attainable from a few target fund raising campaigns perhaps and that
just requires the minimum legal framework for a checking account,
managed by the group.

Steve Shelton is a US attorney active in the mailing lists, he moved his
office to a custom Base case management system it seems like 3-4 maybe
more years ago. Given there seems to be some interest here I will send
him a direct email and see if he could offer some advice on what other
options would be available here.

Also I do not envision a type of organization that is taking positions
on issues of the day, so the question of hierarchy, just rings a little
off note to me.

That is my thinking on the subject at the moment at least.

Best wishes,

Drew
