Yes. I bet those who complain are those who have been subscribers for
a while and not new users to write to the list for the first time.

It is just a matter of getting used to or a matter whether you
allow/welcome posts from non-subscribers or not.

Especially on high-volume lists it has a benefit for those who just
want to have their question answered. Those then don't have to go
through the bother of subscribing, asking the question, then struggle
with unsubscribing again.

Moderated messages aren't flagged in a special way, so replies either
don't reach the passer-by or one has to manually add the poster if one
pays special attention.

If you complain about getting mail twice and cannot handle the volume,
then why are you subscribed to such a high-volume list and why do you
engage in every thread? You only receive duplicates that are replies
to your own posts (and answers to that answers).

The only real thing that changes is that people need to use "reply to
all" instead of just "reply". Or live with the fact that whatever they
wrong only reaches the person most interested in the reply, and
instead an answer from somebody else is read by the whole list. Either
what you wrote was so excellent that you want to share it with
everyone, then just send it again, this time to all, or just leave it
be.

If you complain that it is too much work to remove all addresses but
the list, then the answer is: Don't remove those other addresses. That
the answer doesn't only get to the list is the whole point of the
change. Reply to all and that's it. Don't manually remove people.

If the complain is: But I absolutely don't want those duplicates!!!,
then the answer is to create a filter that has the list's address in
CC/To, but none of the List-specific headers (i.e. no List-Id). That
will get rid of the duplicate messages sent to you personally, but not
the copy that you receive as a subscriber of the the list.

I bet *everyone* complaining deals with more than one mailinglist, and
already has filter-rules to manage those lists, so adding another one
shouldn't be a big deal. Or just hit "del" once in a while.
