Ahh... Sorry, this mailing list posted on a web interface like a
Usenet discussion group is confusing me. Okay. I tried saving the xls
file as ods and found the resulting file now didn't reveal ANY
formulas at all. Re-saving the ods file as xls still didn't restore
any of the formulas in the show-formulas option.

Ah, it occurred to me to also include the original xls file -- but now
I find even THAT one does not show any formulas when I use the toggle
or select the option from the Tools menu!

I'm trying to think if I made any changes in user prefs during this
time, but I don't think so. I changed Formula Syntax from Calc A1 to
Excel A1, but that was some time ago, and I don't think I edited the
test files after making the syntax style change. Anyway. the ORIGINAL
xls file now behaves exactly the same as the xls-to-ods-(then back
to)-xls file.

This is actually a worksheet taken from a practice file accompanying
Richard Kraneis's book The World's Shortest Excel Book. Given the
generic content of the worksheet, I don't think Mr. Kraneis would
mind, especially considering this amounts to an endorsement for his
book.

In Calc, Tools>  Options>  LibreOffice Calc>  View is the option to

formulas in the cells (as opposed to the cell entry dialog window at the

of the screen.) This option can be quick-toggled by Ctrl-~ (e.g. holding
the
Control key down while tapping the ~ tilde key on the left of the 1 key.)

However in my XLS worksheets which I use in LibreOffice Calc, this option
reveals only the formulas in the bottom row of cells, although many cells
above contain formulas as well. I have not seen this behavior reported
anywhere.

If this is indeed a bug, fixing it should be important, as it is a key
feature that greatly facilitates troubleshooting problems in worksheets.

Actually, I mentioned this in another mailing list post, then discovered
that the mailinglist entries were being posted on a web-based archive --
so
I decided I should post my original report here so it could be found.

Can you post a sample file that shows this and post a link back here?
Sounds strange but remember that by not using ODF formats for your
working files can cause problems.  What happens if you save as .ods then
reopen?
