Did you download the .run file from HP's Linux link and run it for your system to create the needed printing system? The "default" printing service for HP and Ubuntu did not work properly for my HP PSC-1410 and Color Laserjet 2600n. I had to download a file like "hplip-3.11.3a.run" or .sh. I use Ubuntu 10.04LTS myself.

If I used the default version that came with Ubuntu 10.04, which I tried, I had issues with printing.

Also, click on the "view hidden files" and find the .libreoffice file on the "default user" folder. Rename it to something else. Then restart LibreOffice. That will create a new setup info and may fix many of the printing issues. I had to do this with OOo when it would only print out pages in the size of 4 pages per sheet. I had to do it once with LibreOffice, to see if it would fix a printing issue with version 3.3.0.

So try the renaming of the hidden .libreoffice folder and restart LO.

If that does not work, go to the HP web site and follow the links to download and run the Linux driver install system.

This is crazy! Writer took 10 minutes just to send a 2 page document
containing only text to my printer (HP LaserJet 2100).

Indeed.

There has just got to be a fix for this!

Sure.

As a substitute I exported the file as a PDF and printed it that way.

Which proves that printing from LibreOffice itself seems to work fine.

Anyone know how to solve this?

Maybe smthng with the printer connection, or are there some network printers that spoil tome to get found. Or just a printer driver problem?
Hard for me to explain, sorry.

Best,
