As I said, PowerPoint (MS Office for Macs 2011) exits the presentation when it is over. PowerPoint (MS Office for Macs 2008) behaved the same.

.pps was intended for automatic play and then close of a prsentation.
.ppt was intended for creating and editing presentations.

It is simple to change a .pps extension to .ppt in order to edit it.
