I don't know how in the end we came up with the current style of the
download page - it's been quite a while since that is in place. :) But I
hope the above solution works for you.

The current version of the download page came through several long discussions with the marketing team. There were quite strong feelings about both styles but it was finally settled to only showing the most current style. I think it would be nice to re-open the discussion at the conference and have a talk about it there ... but not again on the list, it seemed to not work at all with so many views. In person at the conference would probably be the best place to establish the policy if this is what it is.

IMO, having the pick of both styles is a good thing for groups such as the FR and other groups who prefer the old download page style. It is a good compromise that allows nl groups to choose for their specific members' needs.
