Hi Michel,

thanks for the hint ... and although this should (sooner or later) take
place on a Ubuntu discussion list, here are some thoughts based on
earlier discussions concerning the StartCenter (during OOo times).

Hi,

Have you seen that blog entry ?
http://design.canonical.com/2011/03/quit/

It's very interesting and they talk about LibreOffice.
Well, it's about a problem with LibreOffice's "Quit" menu...

Things I really like about this article is to ask fundamental
questions ... although there are examples that things went wrong on some
of the systems mentioned. For example, the Android system tries to care
about system resources in a way, that "Quit" isn't required. But reality
shows, that people install task managers (Google added one in the
meantime) to get rid of "bad" programs.

Concerning LibreOffice, the analysis isn't complete. Two things to add:
      * The "Start Module" is required on MacOS X to select the
application to start (StartCenter). There, we lack the dedicated
application starter icons we have on Windows or on Linux - this
conforms to the Mac platform requirements.
      * The behavior of the "Start Module" can be set to close
LibreOffice if the last document has been closed. Thus, no need
for an explicit "Quit" - although the menu item is still there.
        Spec at [1].

Well, the open issues can be solved - of course (maybe requiring some
additional effort to respect some platform specific behavior). But, this
issue is currently of rather low importance to me. Other thoughts?

Cheers,
Christoph
