I wonder if 3.5 is really ready. I checked my templates in the
splash screen: none there. I also check what was contained in my
template folder as listed in the Template Path [Tools > Options >
LibreOffice >Paths]. There were all of my templates I have been using
since 3.3.4. I have not had this problem before, not even with version
3.5 Beta (RC2).
This along with some of the other posts, 3.5 is not getting better,
just different.
The quickest way for me to get things how I want them is to follow
my own earlier advice: I grouped my templates into folders. Then with
administrative privileges, I copied my templates to the template path in
my installed LO folder. Sure enough, LO lists them by folders when I
click Templates in the LO Splash Screen.
Strange behavior, and not a pleasant thought for people who use
quite a few templates.

Notice that in linux, the user profile path is now
~/.config/libreoffice/3/ rather than ~/.libreoffice.

[User profile path on Linux changed from ~/.libreoffice to
~/.config/libreoffice (see mail archive)]

[changes in profile path in release notes for 3.5]

The above doesn't give a *user* explaination why, it just shows the
addition to the release notes and points to the git page where the code
resides:

Reasoning links back to here:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=32263
[Config file location]
and
https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=87678
[OOo should use FreeDesktop.org base-dir spec for file locations on Linux]

The problem is not with the changed path for the templates unless
they missed a link when they changed the location. Placing one or more
templates into the folder listed in the new path does not make them visible
for use as it always has.
One more point that also seems a little strange: I installed 3.5 from
LO website on Ubuntu 11.10 that did contained no LO nor OOo folders. When I
looked at the new path which ends with /3/user/template, there was no
template folder in the user folder.
