Thanks from the LibreOffice North American Community DVD Project. We are 99% done and working on the DVD case artwork and inserted pamphlet. We could say that as soon as we get these done, we are ready for the first "publication" of our DVD. We are that close.

The efforts of these community projects are important to LibreOffice, I believe. Unlike MS, LibreOffice is "community based" with volunteers from around the world doing their part in making this office suite they best they can. Those who cannot contribute coding are helping with the marketing aspects. There are communities that feel left out. They have stated in the past that software developers are not targeting their communities [like the Hispanic communities] and their needs. LibreOffice "Community" projects are an important way to address these needs. LibreOffice-Box started with their German DVD, and the NA group developed it to serve the English community. We have people working on translating our version to Spanish so it would support the needs of our Spanish speaking communities in the USA as well as Mexico and other countries on this side of the Atlantic that speak a version of Spanish as their default language. We are also working on doing the same for the French speaking communities.

Brazil has a great past for having a community approach to supporting an open-source office suite.

I believe there are other community-based projects that are making an effort to make a distribution DVD that fits their communities' needs.

So to me, Community-Based is the way to go for marketing LibreOffice. The importance of these groups to support LibreOffice and do all they can to promote LibreOffice in a way that supports what their people, community, region, needs is a marketing idea that has worked in the past for many different products.

TDF/LibreOffice should mention the fact that there are project that are promoting their software as a product that supports the needs of these communities and ethnic groups. The work of Community-Based projects should be reconciled for their efforts. We have dedicated our time, and sometimes money, to make/market a project that supports LibreOffice as the best possible office suite for our local, community, regional needs.

We may not be part of the central controlling/developing/marketing group, but we are doing everything we can to help out the TDF/LibreOffice cause. All the groups of people who volunteer should be acknowledged in any presentation. Am I right or wrong?

Why?

A DVD is bridging "the last mile" to customers, not that familiar with
the web, or not trusting software just downloaded without beeing at
least
"confirmed" by an (expensive!) product key. Remember: It's
"office"-software, handling trusted contents!

There is no way more trustworthy to get our software, than handed
physically by a person known and trusted.

Thanks for saying this. I know many people and businesses that will not go online to get any software, paid or free. They require a "professional looking" CD or DVD version of the software if they are to use the software.

I already
know that the rythm is way too slow, and I should speed up a little.
Also, I should add some transitions, to keep up the production of
endorphines. But I really would like to get opinions of English
natives and US residents.

Sadly we don't succeed to get the focus of the marketing guys and gals.
